Ashoka Arab World (AAW) is spearheading creative collaborations among our partners and Fellows to bring projects to scale and increase impact across the Arab World. One area in which we see an opportunity to make a powerful impact is in improving the lives of street children in Egypt. Our Fellow Seham Ibrahim and her organization Tofulty have been working for years to address everything from legal advocacy to provide street children with state IDs and documentation to allow them to work and obtain state benefits, to campaigns to change societal perceptions of street children through arts, sports and other community-based workshops. Individually Seham is making a difference, but through collaboration she can revolutionize the sector.
AAW and Tofulty have identified underserved areas in Cairo and two NGOs, Toyour El-Shark Foundation in El Marg and Nour El-Hayat Foundation in Embaba, that have the potential capacity to provide needed services to street children. With Tofulty’s vast experience working with street children and AAW’s expertise in creating and managing collaborations, we envision working with these two partner NGOs to build the treatment and training capacity of the organizations, while also documenting Tofulty’s proven methodologies in a manual that can be used to facilitate program replication across Egypt. Ultimately, this collaborative platform (CP) will help Seham and her partners achieve scale and impact throughout the Arab World.
